Principles of Chemical Reactor Analysis and Design, New Tools for Industrial Chemical Reactor Operations

Creator: Uzi Mann | 2009-04-13

The text's unified methodology is applicable to both single and multiple chemical reactions, to all reactor configurations, and to all forms of rate expression. This text also . . .

Publisher: Wiley-Interscience

About this book
An innovative approach that helps students move from the classroom to professional practiceThis text offers a comprehensive, unified methodology to analyze and design chemical reactors, using a reaction-based design formulation rather than the common species-based design formulation. The book's acclaimed approach addresses the weaknesses of current pedagogy by giving readers the knowledge and tools needed to address the technical challenges they will face in practice.Principles of Chemical Reactor Analysis and Design prepares readers to design and operate real chemical reactors and to troubleshoot any technical problems that may arise. The text's unified methodology is applicable to both single and multiple chemical reactions, to all reactor configurations, and to all forms of rate expression. This text also . . .Describes reactor operations in terms of dimensionless design equations, generating dimensionless operating curves that depict the progress of individual chemical reactions, the composition of species, and the temperature.Combines all parameters that affect heat transfer into a single dimensionless number that can be estimated a priori.Accounts for all variations in the heat capacity of the reacting fluid.Develops a complete framework for economic-based optimization of reactor operations.Problems at the end of each chapter are categorized by their level of difficulty from one to four, giving readers the opportunity to test and develop their skills.Graduate and advanced undergraduate chemical engineering students will find that this text's unified approach better prepares them for professional practice by teaching them the actual skills needed to design and analyze chemical reactors.

MSR Reactor = 5 STARS and BEYOND

MSR's Reactor is a dream. Living in Oregon we can have all 4 seasons in 1 day several times a year, and this stove is amazing in all of them. First off carbon monoxide warnings are all over this unit due to the heating elements size which is up to 5 times larger than almost every stove on the market, so the CM output is about 3 times more. Complete windproof design, lower part of the pot is basically sealed with the heat element & the gases are redirected out vents on the lower sides of the pot, its very nice to the eye. 1 liter boil time for me with cold water was around 2 & a half minutes in about 15 mph winds. The unit itself is entirely contained within the pot, and once placed into the pot correctly, the unit is contained & stabilized due to a locking plug in the pots lid that attaches to the top of the propane can which eliminates rattling & loose parts. This setup is about $60 more than most other units but is by far well worth double that, the time it saves you alone is... 5/5 Lord Maximus - See all my reviews This review is from: MSR Reactor 1.7L Stove System (Sports) MSR's Reactor is a dream. I purchased two of these TLF reactors so that I could run them in series. I decided to run D-Nitrate in One and Activated Carbon in the other to try and bring the Nitrate/Nitrite numbers down in my 75 gallon ref. To early to tell yet whether these two have actually reduced my numbers, but there is no doubt that the water in the tank is now more crystal clear than before. Is it the carbon in the reactor along with less feeding that is clearing up the water cloumn, or is it just the fact that the Reef is now more mature than it was before this installation? Only time will tell how effective these are in reducing the Nitrate level in the reef. As for hooking them up in series, they do require some minor engineering and plumbing alterations, but if you are adpt at working with a refugium, and a somewhat sophisticated sump, this should be a piece of cake. I say should because I have a great plumbing supply house nearby, with a great salesman who will stop at nothing to keep the number... 4/5 Kenny G - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Nice Reactor but Has Room for Improvement

This is a nice reactor that I am using for phosban and charcoal and does what it is designed for. However I have had two issues with this product; 1: it is extremely difficult for me to remove the top for servicing, I feel like I'm going to break it trying to open the top. I cannot grasp the top and open it by hand, I have to put the extension nipples in a slot or vise like opening to hold and turn. 2: one of the two reactors I have leaks from the top seal. No matter how much I clean or tighten, it leaks enough where I have a salt residue down the side of the reactor. I have even tried an o-ring lubricant and the top is still difficult to remove and it still leaks. Kinda disappointing. I have also had the included sponges clog pushing my phosban to the top of the chamber before the phosban is due to be changed so this has added some additional maintenance. On the good side, the up-flow principal works and it is easily adjustable with the flow valve. The reactor is clear so its... 3/5 craigo - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Two Little Fishies ATLPBR150 GFO PhosBan Reactor 150 (Misc.) but it is what it is...my major gripe is that it is nearly impossible to unscrew the thing for cleanings. There is no way to grip the 'lid' other than grasping onto the input/output connectors on top, and obviously this is NOT a great feature because those will snap off...it's almost like they designed it to break! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , May 23, 2014

Its most obvious competitors are the Luminox models. For an additional $100, you get the Luminox name, but the construction and features of the Reactor make such an expense unnecessary. It's a great watch and I'm happy I spent the $$ on it rather than a Luminox. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , December 21, 2012

Good reactor. Comparable to Phosban 150 reactor, but better.

This reactor replaces the original kent reactor which received poor ratings. With its new cyclone design, I give it 5 stars and would recommend over the phosban 150. It's pretty much the same size and height as the phosban 150. The pump that it comes with is designed for smaller and lighter media. If you need it to tumble bio pellets I suggest a stronger pump between 300-400 GPH. Because of its cyclone design, it does a nice job tumbling bio pellets, so long as you use a stronger pump. If you want to use the pump that's included, you have to use less media or lighter media. The fittings and rubber seals are pretty much equivalent to the phosban 150 reactor. Since the intake tube runs down one side instead of the middle of the reactor chamber, pouring in media is simple. It also allows a circular cyclone tumble instead of the old upward tumble. Hence, less chance of media clumping. I'm currently running a rio plus 1400 and running it side by side with my phosban 150. I'm... 5/5 Coral Reef - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Loved the Boy from Reactor Four

0 5/5 Pags - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: The Boy from Reactor 4 (The Nadia Tesla Series) (Paperback) Fast paced with interesting characters I loved the Boy from Reactor Four. Nothing traditional in the way this story is constructed, many unexpected twists and turns. The author took the time to finish strong. Too many books set up well and get lazy at the finish. This book kept me hooked all the way to the last page. Plus Chernobyl today is a fascinating place. One I hadn't thought a lot about. Stelmach did his homework here too. There will be moments when your stomach muscles tighten with suspense, and times when you laugh out loud. Plus you are left with the question; what is in the locket? Now I'm waiting for the sequel! All is all a very entertaining novel. Well done! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , March 19, 2013

    No Emotional Value.

I probably shouldn't have read this after a week of re-reading some classics, but the very beginning seemed interesting so I kept going, but it rapidly deteriorates after the first chapter. If I were to take a piece of white paper and cut out a figure and draw a face on it (naming it NADIA) it would have more personality than the main character of this book. If I placed my paper doll on the coffee table and had her periodically jump from it to the couch to the love seat to the couch (New York, to the plane, to the Ukraine, to the taxi, to the motorcycle, to Chernobyl, to the caves, to the plane to the bus, train, truck....to the ice...to the plane...to the city....blah blah blah)--well, you get the gist of this book. Honestly--so much fast-paced but trivial action it becomes quite irritating.Sadly there aren't enough details to make you feel as though you are IN a foreign country (try the ice rink scene in 'Gorky Park'/ heck, even the first hour of waking up in `A Day... 1/5 B.
