Principles of Chemical Reactor Analysis and Design, New Tools for Industrial Chemical Reactor Operations

Creator: Uzi Mann | 2009-04-13

The text's unified methodology is applicable to both single and multiple chemical reactions, to all reactor configurations, and to all forms of rate expression. This text also . . .

Publisher: Wiley-Interscience

About this book
An innovative approach that helps students move from the classroom to professional practiceThis text offers a comprehensive, unified methodology to analyze and design chemical reactors, using a reaction-based design formulation rather than the common species-based design formulation. The book's acclaimed approach addresses the weaknesses of current pedagogy by giving readers the knowledge and tools needed to address the technical challenges they will face in practice.Principles of Chemical Reactor Analysis and Design prepares readers to design and operate real chemical reactors and to troubleshoot any technical problems that may arise. The text's unified methodology is applicable to both single and multiple chemical reactions, to all reactor configurations, and to all forms of rate expression. This text also . . .Describes reactor operations in terms of dimensionless design equations, generating dimensionless operating curves that depict the progress of individual chemical reactions, the composition of species, and the temperature.Combines all parameters that affect heat transfer into a single dimensionless number that can be estimated a priori.Accounts for all variations in the heat capacity of the reacting fluid.Develops a complete framework for economic-based optimization of reactor operations.Problems at the end of each chapter are categorized by their level of difficulty from one to four, giving readers the opportunity to test and develop their skills.Graduate and advanced undergraduate chemical engineering students will find that this text's unified approach better prepares them for professional practice by teaching them the actual skills needed to design and analyze chemical reactors.

    Two Little Fishes Reactors

I purchased two of these TLF reactors so that I could run them in series. I decided to run D-Nitrate in One and Activated Carbon in the other to try and bring the Nitrate/Nitrite numbers down in my 75 gallon ref. To early to tell yet whether these two have actually reduced my numbers, but there is no doubt that the water in the tank is now more crystal clear than before. Is it the carbon in the reactor along with less feeding that is clearing up the water cloumn, or is it just the fact that the Reef is now more mature than it was before this installation? Only time will tell how effective these are in reducing the Nitrate level in the reef. As for hooking them up in series, they do require some minor engineering and plumbing alterations, but if you are adpt at working with a refugium, and a somewhat sophisticated sump, this should be a piece of cake. I say should because I have a great plumbing supply house nearby, with a great salesman who will stop at nothing to keep the number... 4/5 Kenny G - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Nice Reactor but Has Room for Improvement

This is a nice reactor that I am using for phosban and charcoal and does what it is designed for. However I have had two issues with this product; 1: it is extremely difficult for me to remove the top for servicing, I feel like I'm going to break it trying to open the top. I cannot grasp the top and open it by hand, I have to put the extension nipples in a slot or vise like opening to hold and turn. 2: one of the two reactors I have leaks from the top seal. No matter how much I clean or tighten, it leaks enough where I have a salt residue down the side of the reactor. I have even tried an o-ring lubricant and the top is still difficult to remove and it still leaks. Kinda disappointing. I have also had the included sponges clog pushing my phosban to the top of the chamber before the phosban is due to be changed so this has added some additional maintenance. On the good side, the up-flow principal works and it is easily adjustable with the flow valve. The reactor is clear so its... 3/5 craigo - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 0 5/5 Zach - See all my reviews This review is from: Two Little Fishies ATLPBR150 GFO PhosBan Reactor 150 (Misc.) Just like other reviews say, it does exactly what it says it does in a durable fahion. Evenly pass water through your phosphate media to get rid of of phosphates and ultimately control algae. Very happy with mine. NOt sure what they recommend but I use a maxi jet 400 pump for mine on my 90 gal tank so that water passes through it slowly. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 25, 2011

    Great Product.

I bought this reactor oversized for my tank because I decided simply because I already had the smaller 150 and I wanted a bigger one. Firstly I run activated carbon in this reactor not phosban. Ideally you can run either one I have two so I run phosban in the smaller and this being the larger I use carbon. Regardless of the name both will run fine, as you can even by one reactor and run both media in it at the same time. This uses the up flow principle whereby water is pumped through the thin clear tube in the picture and pushed from downwards to flow up thereby allowing the water to flow upwards passing through your media whether it be carbon or GFO. As a result the water is fully flows thorough under light pressure and purified or cleaned. I use Two Little Fishes brand of carbon and phosban with positive results. Water is crystal clear and phosphate free. Things to note, this does not include a pump, you need to purchase a pump separately for use with this. Also this does not come... 5/5 Stefan Boodoo (San Fernando, Trinidad WI) - See all my reviews, March 29, 2014

0 5/5 Zach M. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Two Little Fishies ATLPBR550 GFO PhosBan Reactor 550 (Misc.) I have this hooked up to an individual pump on my 45 gallon tank. It does a great job as a phosphate reactor, although I'm fairly sure that any similarly sized reactive powder would work. It comes with a few different fittings for hooking it up to a tank in various configurations. Has been running for a few months at this point. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 31, 2014

There is a certain segment of Neil Young's fan base that is in it primarily for the decibels. They want to hear "Hey Hey My My", not "My My Hey Hey". They want Crazy Horse, and it better not be `Greendale'. While I share their passion, I do have a corresponding affinity for much of Young's kinder and gentler fare, such as `Comes a Time'. There does come a time, however, when the mood strikes for something striking, and nothing can strike that chord like Neil's `re.ac.tor'. In that sense, this may well be Neil's most underrated effort. Indeed, it is not difficult to find people who would place this disc in an inferno, creating a disc.oh! in.fer.no!`re.ac.tor' is an explosive chain reaction (since there is no song called `re.ac.tor' on the disc, one must speculate on the significance of the title, including it's syllabled graphic style, and absence of capital letters, which may symbolize being broken down to essential elements; the song titles receive the same curious... 5/5 Don Schmittdiel "running_man" (Clinton Twp., MI) - See all my reviews This review is from: Re-ac-tor (Audio CD) There is a certain segment of Neil Young's fan base that is in it primarily for the decibels. Highly underrated

This one never really got the respect it deserved, but in 1981, it was all about the synth (which makes a couple of appearances here, mostly as atmospheric filler amongst the familiar chaos of guitars, drums and bass). It's a big, sludgy mess, of course, which is why it's so delicious. "Opera Star" is hysterically funny, because it's just so damn STOOPID. "Surfer Joe and Moe the Sleaze" carries a serious wallop, a killer riff, and not much more. "T-bone" gets even more granular: one huge riff pounded into oblivion for nine-plus minutes, while Neil laments the fact that he's "got mashed potatoes, ain't got no T-bone" over and over and over."Get Back On It" isn't gonna make things any harder for you: over one of the most basic of 'oldies rock' structures, Neil and Horse muse on the virtues and pitfalls of getting back on the road. Do they miss some of the simplest chord changes in rock history, more than once? Do they sound... 4/5 owlberg (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Re-ac-tor (Audio CD) This one never really got the respect it deserved, but in 1981, it was all about the synth (which makes a couple of appearances here, mostly as atmospheric filler amongst the familiar chaos of guitars, drums and bass). It's a big, sludgy mess, of course, which is why it's so delicious.
