Principles of Chemical Reactor Analysis and Design, New Tools for Industrial Chemical Reactor Operations

Creator: Uzi Mann | 2009-04-13

The text's unified methodology is applicable to both single and multiple chemical reactions, to all reactor configurations, and to all forms of rate expression. This text also . . .

Publisher: Wiley-Interscience

About this book
An innovative approach that helps students move from the classroom to professional practiceThis text offers a comprehensive, unified methodology to analyze and design chemical reactors, using a reaction-based design formulation rather than the common species-based design formulation. The book's acclaimed approach addresses the weaknesses of current pedagogy by giving readers the knowledge and tools needed to address the technical challenges they will face in practice.Principles of Chemical Reactor Analysis and Design prepares readers to design and operate real chemical reactors and to troubleshoot any technical problems that may arise. The text's unified methodology is applicable to both single and multiple chemical reactions, to all reactor configurations, and to all forms of rate expression. This text also . . .Describes reactor operations in terms of dimensionless design equations, generating dimensionless operating curves that depict the progress of individual chemical reactions, the composition of species, and the temperature.Combines all parameters that affect heat transfer into a single dimensionless number that can be estimated a priori.Accounts for all variations in the heat capacity of the reacting fluid.Develops a complete framework for economic-based optimization of reactor operations.Problems at the end of each chapter are categorized by their level of difficulty from one to four, giving readers the opportunity to test and develop their skills.Graduate and advanced undergraduate chemical engineering students will find that this text's unified approach better prepares them for professional practice by teaching them the actual skills needed to design and analyze chemical reactors.

    Two Little Fishes Reactors

I purchased two of these TLF reactors so that I could run them in series. I decided to run D-Nitrate in One and Activated Carbon in the other to try and bring the Nitrate/Nitrite numbers down in my 75 gallon ref. To early to tell yet whether these two have actually reduced my numbers, but there is no doubt that the water in the tank is now more crystal clear than before. Is it the carbon in the reactor along with less feeding that is clearing up the water cloumn, or is it just the fact that the Reef is now more mature than it was before this installation? Only time will tell how effective these are in reducing the Nitrate level in the reef. As for hooking them up in series, they do require some minor engineering and plumbing alterations, but if you are adpt at working with a refugium, and a somewhat sophisticated sump, this should be a piece of cake. I say should because I have a great plumbing supply house nearby, with a great salesman who will stop at nothing to keep the number... 4/5 Kenny G - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 0 5/5 Zach - See all my reviews This review is from: Two Little Fishies ATLPBR150 GFO PhosBan Reactor 150 (Misc.) Just like other reviews say, it does exactly what it says it does in a durable fahion. Evenly pass water through your phosphate media to get rid of of phosphates and ultimately control algae. Very happy with mine. NOt sure what they recommend but I use a maxi jet 400 pump for mine on my 90 gal tank so that water passes through it slowly. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 25, 2011

Nice Reactor but Has Room for Improvement

This is a nice reactor that I am using for phosban and charcoal and does what it is designed for. However I have had two issues with this product; 1: it is extremely difficult for me to remove the top for servicing, I feel like I'm going to break it trying to open the top. I cannot grasp the top and open it by hand, I have to put the extension nipples in a slot or vise like opening to hold and turn. 2: one of the two reactors I have leaks from the top seal. No matter how much I clean or tighten, it leaks enough where I have a salt residue down the side of the reactor. I have even tried an o-ring lubricant and the top is still difficult to remove and it still leaks. Kinda disappointing. I have also had the included sponges clog pushing my phosban to the top of the chamber before the phosban is due to be changed so this has added some additional maintenance. On the good side, the up-flow principal works and it is easily adjustable with the flow valve. The reactor is clear so its... 3/5 craigo - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 0 4/5 BKinNV - See all my reviews This review is from: REACTOR Men's 73801 "Gryphon" Watch with Black Rubber Band (Watch) The Reactor Gryphon is a great watch that packs the same features as more expensive selections in the "tactical watch" category. Its most obvious competitors are the Luminox models. For an additional $100, you get the Luminox name, but the construction and features of the Reactor make such an expense unnecessary. It's a great watch and I'm happy I spent the $$ on it rather than a Luminox. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 21, 2012

    Great Product.

I bought this reactor oversized for my tank because I decided simply because I already had the smaller 150 and I wanted a bigger one. Firstly I run activated carbon in this reactor not phosban. Ideally you can run either one I have two so I run phosban in the smaller and this being the larger I use carbon. Regardless of the name both will run fine, as you can even by one reactor and run both media in it at the same time. This uses the up flow principle whereby water is pumped through the thin clear tube in the picture and pushed from downwards to flow up thereby allowing the water to flow upwards passing through your media whether it be carbon or GFO. As a result the water is fully flows thorough under light pressure and purified or cleaned. I use Two Little Fishes brand of carbon and phosban with positive results. Water is crystal clear and phosphate free. Things to note, this does not include a pump, you need to purchase a pump separately for use with this. Also this does not come... 5/5 Stefan Boodoo (San Fernando, Trinidad WI) - See all my reviews, March 29, 2014

Good reactor. Comparable to Phosban 150 reactor, but better.

This reactor replaces the original kent reactor which received poor ratings. With its new cyclone design, I give it 5 stars and would recommend over the phosban 150. It's pretty much the same size and height as the phosban 150. The pump that it comes with is designed for smaller and lighter media. If you need it to tumble bio pellets I suggest a stronger pump between 300-400 GPH. Because of its cyclone design, it does a nice job tumbling bio pellets, so long as you use a stronger pump. If you want to use the pump that's included, you have to use less media or lighter media. The fittings and rubber seals are pretty much equivalent to the phosban 150 reactor. Since the intake tube runs down one side instead of the middle of the reactor chamber, pouring in media is simple. It also allows a circular cyclone tumble instead of the old upward tumble. Hence, less chance of media clumping. I'm currently running a rio plus 1400 and running it side by side with my phosban 150. I'm... 5/5 Coral Reef - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) The Reactor Poseidon is very large, heavy, and great looking. This watch keeps perfect time and has zero-defects. 0 5/5 Bradley D Beal - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Reactor Men's 55801 Poseidon 1000 meter Dual Rotating Bezel Red and Black Dial Watch (Watch) I am an avid watch collector/junkie. Like many of you I've admired this watch from afar for about 6 months. I purchased other watches thinking that they would be just as nice (not so) I ordered this watch and within a few short days it arrived at my door. I first noticed the quality which was comprised of little details that only a true watch lover can appreciate. The weight is hefty enough you notice but not too overwhelming. This is NOT a dress shirt type of watch so if you are bound by the shirt with a collar job you'll have to wait till 5pm to sport this back on your wrist. I am VERY pleased with both the watch and the Amazon dealer who sold it to me. Thank you for another wonderful purchase! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 12, 2014

    Awesome Watch !

I have been a Luminox customer for many years. This watch far exceeds the durability, workmanship, and functionality of those watches. The superluminova is awesome with just a slight charge from a light source. My wrist is only 7 1/4 inches yet the design of the swivel on the band allows it to adjust perfectly to my smaller wrist. The reactor symbol on the band holds the cuff in place so you don't have to keep adjusting the length of the band. All in all I would say this company has addressed many of the other issues I have had with other watch brands. After three days the Poseiden has kept perfect time along with my atomic clock which attests to the Japanese movement inside. Although the watch is heavy I find no problem with getting used to the weight. The first day I wore it to work it got noticed. Can't wait till I order another one with the stainless band. As a side note the package it is wrapped in doubles as a metal koozie while your out having fun. I guess Reactor... 5/5 nochman - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) There is a certain segment of Neil Young's fan base that is in it primarily for the decibels. They want to hear "Hey Hey My My", not "My My Hey Hey". They want Crazy Horse, and it better not be `Greendale'. While I share their passion, I do have a corresponding affinity for much of Young's kinder and gentler fare, such as `Comes a Time'. There does come a time, however, when the mood strikes for something striking, and nothing can strike that chord like Neil's `re.ac.tor'. Highly underrated

This one never really got the respect it deserved, but in 1981, it was all about the synth (which makes a couple of appearances here, mostly as atmospheric filler amongst the familiar chaos of guitars, drums and bass). It's a big, sludgy mess, of course, which is why it's so delicious. "Opera Star" is hysterically funny, because it's just so damn STOOPID. "Surfer Joe and Moe the Sleaze" carries a serious wallop, a killer riff, and not much more. "T-bone" gets even more granular: one huge riff pounded into oblivion for nine-plus minutes, while Neil laments the fact that he's "got mashed potatoes, ain't got no T-bone" over and over and over."Get Back On It" isn't gonna make things any harder for you: over one of the most basic of 'oldies rock' structures, Neil and Horse muse on the virtues and pitfalls of getting back on the road.
